Center for Excellence in STEM Education
We provide quality STEM education experiences for our teacher education students, K-12 students and families, and in-service teachers and schools.
What is a Makerspace?
Our makerspace is a physical room that is set up to encourage creativity and design. We have a variety of materials, both low and hi-tech, that allow makers of all ages to build, innovate, and see come to life in 2D and 3D ways. While many of our programs support making, here are three programs that we have that are specifically geared toward our making community:
- FamilyMake: Twice each month, we're opening the makerspace for families to create and connect using the tools, materials, and supplies in the makerspace. While we may not have pre-planned activities for this session, a Center staff member will be on-site to answer questions, guide participants' curiosity, and offer assistance with tools such as the 3D pen/printer, digital drawing (design and basic animation), sublimation printer, vinyl cutter, and more.
- MakeShift: During the school year, this event for 3rd - 8th graders is focused on a combination of guided activity and free maker play. The goal is to foster curiosity, creativity, and community. We close this event with free play; it is our way of elevating students' need for voice and choice as valued members of our maker community.
- CollegeMake: We're open for college students! Come create and connect using the tools, materials, and supplies in the makerspace. A center staff member will be on-site to answer questions, guide participants and offer assistance with tools such as the 3D printer, digital drawing (design and basic animation), sublimation printer, vinyl cutter, and more. Once you have received training on a tool, you will have future access to the tool.

Teach Wonder Podcast
We know that powerful things are happening in education. Too often, those stories go unshared or stay within a small community. We’ve built a space to share those powerful things, where we aren’t constrained by distance and scheduling. We’ll combine our 35 years of K - 12 teaching experience with the unique perspectives of our guests to connect you to relevant ideas and experiences. Listen in to motivate your practice, challenge your current pedagogy, and expand your horizons with stories from educators near and far.
