Get Involved in Res-Life
Living on campus opens up many opportunities to get involved and make a difference. Start by engaging with your residence hall community! You'll gain new skills, find your voice and make new friends.
Getting involved also helps you meet other students with similar interests. You might even make lifelong friends through activities and events in your residence hall! Join a Community Council, the Residence Housing Association or the National Residence Hall Honorary group to deepen your engagement and gain leadership experience.
Being a student leader
Getting involved allows you to help make decisions that impact your community, meet community members and vote on the spending of student dollars towards community programming. E-Board opportunities are also available.
What is a Community Council?
Central Michigan University Community Councils are all about giving residents a voice in their buildings and neighborhoods. It's a great way to share your thoughts on policies and events that affect you and your community.
What do Community Council members do?
Council members and residents team up to organize social events, complete community service and participate in leadership activities and conferences. It’s a fantastic chance to dive into CMU initiatives, learn more about Residence Life and discover all the resources and opportunities CMU has to offer!
Members of our Community Councils gain a variety of valuable experiences in their roles, enabling them to:
- Cultivate new insights into leadership through shared experiences and available resources.
- Reflect on their personal strengths and areas for growth.
- Clearly articulate their rights and responsibilities within the community.
- Collaborate effectively with diverse individuals to achieve common goals.
- Participate in service and volunteer activities that emphasize working together to ensure everyone has the same rights and opportunities.
Residence Housing Associations
Learn to lead and discover your voice! Our Residence Housing Association gives you a platform to express your concerns and opinions about campus life. RHA also sponsors a full slate of fun and educational programming that provides opportunities to build leadership skills and get to know your classmates.
What is RHA?
RHA recognizes and celebrates the importance of unity and the value of engagement in our communities. We advocate for active representation of the interests, concerns and issues of each residential student, in addition to the social, cultural and communal atmosphere within each residential community.
How do I get involved?
If you're a student living in on-campus housing, you're automatically part of RHA! Anyone can attend meetings. We invite you to reach out! Email us at rha@cmich.edu or find us on instagram with cmurha.
National Residence Hall Honorary
The Julie McMahon Chapter of the National Residence Hall Honorary is a student-led organization dedicated to fostering campus recognition, community service and leadership development among our members.
Our chapter consists of student leaders who have devoted time and energy to support the residence hall experience so they are more than mere "dorms" for the students. We aim to provide service and recognition for all students on campus while collaborating with outstanding community partners.
