Excellence in Graduate Medical Education
Central Michigan University is proud to lead graduate medical education in the Great Lakes Bay Region of Michigan. Our program has a proud history in Saginaw, Michigan.
The area has a long-standing commitment to residency training with our first program starting in 1947. In 1968, area community hospitals formed a medical education consortium that unified medical training programs in a single organization. Medical students
began training in the community in the early 1970s.
In 2012, the program became part of Central Michigan University College of Medicine, providing the majority of clinical education opportunities in collaboration with
CMU Medical Education Partners.
CMU offers eight residency programs:
- Emergency Medicine
- Family Medicine
- General Surgery
- Internal Medicine
- Obstetrics and Gynecology
- Pediatrics
- Podiatric Medicine & Surgery
- Psychiatry
CMU offers one Fellowship:
One of the greatest benefits to residents training in Saginaw is the large and varied patient population. Our two primary referral hospitals serve patients from a broad geographic area including mid and northeastern Michigan.
The breadth of patient care experience for resident training here is unmatched. And with fewer learners in the system, dedicated faculty and a large patient population
– CMU residents gain extensive real-world, hands-on experience.
Our modern medical simulation facilities and its professional staff complement training with high- and low-fidelity simulators, standardized patient encounters, virtual reality trainers and robotic surgery systems.
Thank you for your interest in CMU's residency programs in Saginaw, Michigan and we encourage you to apply to our graduate medical education programs to receive outstanding clinical training with our dedicated and caring team. All graduates from our Residency and Fellowship programs will be eligible for specialty boards.
