Honorary Alumni Award

Thomas Bailey was instrumental in helping CMU preserve and acquires Miller's Marsh on Beaver Island in 1998 and recently helped facilitate the purchase of the boathouse on the island.

He is the executive director of Little Traverse Conservancy, which bought Miller's Marsh to protect it from being purchased by anyone else until CMU raised the money to purchase it. To help CMU purchase the boathouse, he has met with donors, the realtor, and others involved in the sale.

Thomas serves on the Michigan Nonprofit Association Board of Directors, is president and director of Heart of the Lakes Center for Land Conservation Policy, and is a member of the National Land Trust Council of the Land Trust Alliance.

His nominator said his assistance with the Beaver Island projects has been invaluable. He wrote: "We would not be where we are without Tom's help. He is a cheerleader for CMU and values what we are doing."
