Apply for housing: First-Year and Transfer Students
So far in the process, you’ve applied for admission, been admitted to CMU and submitted your enrollment deposit. Now, you can enter your housing portal, sign your housing contract, choose a meal plan and find roommates!
The housing application process is the same for transfer students and all first-year students, including international students in their first year at CMU.
Central Michigan University's campus residency policy requires that first- and second-year students live on campus. Those who reach the four-semester requirement at midyear are required to complete the full term of the contract for the academic year (fall and spring semester).
Watch for your ResLife guide
After you submit your enrollment deposit, you will receive the Residential Community Living Guide through your student cmich.edu email. This gives you access to apply for housing.
Apply for student housing
Log in to your housing portal
Access housing.cmich.edu using the same login information you used to create your application to CMU. Here, you can choose your meal plan, complete a lifestyle profile and form roommate groups. You can modify your selections even after submitting your application.
Sign your housing contract
Please note that MICHIGAN LAW DOES NOT ALLOW A MINOR TO VOID A CONTRACT FOR HOUSING. If you sign this Housing Contract and are under the age of 18, you cannot cancel it merely for that reason.
Start your housing application
This is where you select a meal plan, complete a lifestyle questionnaire and find roommates.
You can review your meal plan package options with CMU Dining's Residential Meal Memberships, or check out this year's housing and food rates.
If you are part of a roommate group, your Group Leader will make the selection and assign beds within the chosen room for all members
How do you make a Roommate Group?
- One person will start their housing application and create a Roommate Group. That person is the designated Group Leader.
- The Group Leader will invite others to the group – it’s important that everyone in the group has started their housing application. Otherwise, the Group Leader will not be able to find/invite them to join the group.
- Once everyone in the group has started their application and accepted the invite, the Group Leader will log on during the timeframe for the preferred location* and select a space for themselves and each roommate in the room.
*Be sure to communicate with your Roommate Group about second and third-option preferences for housing in case your first preference is already occupied.
Submit your first housing payment
Your first housing payment of $350 is due May 1, or with application if applying after May 1.
- The first housing payment will appear on your April billing statement. If you apply after April 1, please allow one week for the charge to reflect on your student account.
- To make a payment online, log into your centralink.cmich.edu account with your global ID and password. Then click on "view/pay my bill," and choose either electronic check or credit card.
- If you need to defer/postpone this payment, please email reslife@cmich.edu and be sure to include your name and student ID number.
Select your room
Housing selection is scheduled for mid-July.
By 5 p.m. on July 1, you will receive an email in your cmich.edu account with your designated time to select your housing assignment. During your assigned timeslot, log into your housing application at housing.cmich.edu to choose your assignment.
