Why study pre-med and osteopathy?

There are two main types of medical education and practice in the United States; allopathic physicians (M.D.s) or osteopathic physicians (D.O.s). Most physicians are general practitioners, handling a variety of health needs for their patients. Other physicians practice one of 26 specialty areas. This pre-med program will prepare you for a successful career in medicine, regardless of your area of interest.

The pre-medicine and osteopathy pathway is not a major. Instead, it is a professional path that sets you up to excel in medical school and beyond. Popular pre-med majors are:

No matter which major you choose, the core coursework for the pre-medicine program includes biology, chemistry, physics, biochemistry, mathematics and English. You'll also have the opportunity to take elective courses in subjects such as anatomy, physiology, genetics and psychology.

In addition to your coursework, you'll also participate in extracurricular activities that will help you develop your skills and knowledge in medicine. These activities may include shadowing doctors, volunteering at hospitals or participating in research projects.

You'll have support of a pre-med program advisor every step of the way. Your advisor will help you build a personalized plan of study, prepare for the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) and apply to medical school.
