Finding roommates

College roommates can often turn into friends for life. If you don't know who you'd like to room with, don't worry! Many students decide where they want to live before connecting with roommates.

There are several ways you can search and select your roommates!

Within the housing application, you'll receive a list of suggested roommates. This list is based on the lifestyle questionnaire you filled out. The higher the percentage, the more their answers match yours.

If you already know who you would like to live with, you can search for friends with their personal details. Then, use the Roommate Group feature in the housing application to select a housing option together.

This online community is great place to connect with fellow students in your class! You are added to this online community as soon as you are accepted to the university.

Available for new, incoming fall students.

The RoomSync app allows you to narrow your potential roommate search by applying lifestyle filters or searching by academic colleges and housing preferences.

You will find the link to download the appin the Roommate Search step of the housing application. It is important that you use the link in the housing application, as this is your invitation to RoomSync.

If you have any questions about using the app, you can ask us or contact RoomSync atsupport@roomsync.com.

    Creating a Roommate Group

Once you have connected to your roommate(s) using one of the methods above, it's time to create a Roommate Group in the housing application. You can create a Roommate Group as soon as you gain access to the application – which will be just before housing selection opens in July.

To find your chosen roommates, everyone must have started their housing application. The one who creates the Roommate Group is the Group Leader. This person will be the one to invite others to the group. Once everyone has accepted the request, the Group Leader will select a space during the timeframe for their preferred location and assign themselves and each roommate to a bed space in that unit. Be sure to talk with your roommates about a second and third option if your first housing preference is not available as sign-up is first come, first serve.

    Housing contract

The housing contract is a legal agreement between you and the university. It applies in all instances where a student lives in housing provided by CMU, whether that is in a residence hall, apartment or other type of housing. While it's written using legal language, we encourage you to download a copy and familiarize yourself with it. If you have any questions, a member of the Residence Life staff can help.

Please note that Michigan law does not allow a minor to void a contract for housing. If you sign this Housing Contract and are under the age of 18, you cannot cancel it merely for that reason.
